Arriving in Da Nang
The plane ride from Hanoi to Da Nang went pretty smoothly (Here’s more information
about the flight from Hanoi to Da Nang) We rented an apartment in Da Nang as
we
wanted to be able to cook our own meal and tried as much as possible to buy
ingredient at a local food market.
The apartment was amazing,we rented through Airbnb and it was as described and more
! (Here more information about accomodation in Asa) The airbnb had a Washing Machine
in the apartment… That’s pretty rare and we used that thing to the fullest. (Our
clothes had been hand wash for a while and it was starting to show...
(Here’s more
information about laundry)
After enjoying the comfort of the apartment the next step was visiting the food
market.
Fortunately for us the market was at a walking distance (A real walking distance
this time, about 15 minutes… Gaby learned yeah) over there we bought fruit, veggie
and meat. Yep meat, well actually shrimp to be exact. Later on we also tried chicken
and fish. I know for northern american standard a Vietnamese street market may not
seem the most sanitary place on earth but there turnover is way faster than the one
in our country … so it’s actually fresher in a way. Bottom line is that we didn’t
get sick and didn’t eat it any raw meat or fish.
(And the meals was deliciouses
cause... well I cooked them hehehe)
But we didn’t only cook our own food in Da Nang, we were still in vacation (I think,
I don’t know if after a few months you can still call it a vacation) So since we
were in Vietnam we tried out the indian restaurant… Don’t ask why. The food was
incredible and I think it was event better than the indian food we ate in Singapore
in little india. Yeah that good. On internet they said it was a restaurant you
should try if you go to Da Nang and now we know why.
Our apartment was not only fully equipped, it was also next to an amazing beach. We
never went swimming since the water wasn’t that clear (and we just arrived from the
Philippines were the water the beaches were straight out of a dream…) but it was a
nice long beach where you could walk and relax.
A few days after our arrival in Da Nang we ran out of cash, we needed to withdraw
more money. Normally that’s not a problem, we find an ATM and withdraw money… but
this time, 5 ATM later we realised that we may have a problem. We at first we
thought it was a refill problem with the ATM. We heard it was a common occurrence in
Vietnam due to the street markets. So we went back the next day and stillll
nothing…. in the meantime we still had to eat … Fortunately when you order on grab
most of the restaurant allows credit card payment so we didn’t starved. On the third
day of trying to withdraw money, one ATM did the most unforgivable thing in the
world, it ate my credit card!!! In slow motion too, eating my credit card wasn’t
enough I had to watch it slowly go back inside the ATM. After a few swear, I came
out of the atm, fortunately alexis still had his card but for the rest of the trip I
was a little stress. We didn’t had a back up anymore. We then proceeded to go back
to our apartment to call our credit card company the lady was super nice and actual
explained to us why our credit card didn’t work and directed us to one to will work.
(Here more information about ATM in Asia)
Since we were only able to order on grab and that I had a lot of feeling to pass we
ordered a dreadful amount of bubble tea on grab. At one point, Alexis had to limit
my consumption to 1 large a day. There was a legitimate concern that I would do an
overdose of sugar. (Yes, I know I don’t have a lot of control with sugary beverage….
)
While we were in Da Nang we wanted to visit the
My song sanctuary which is
40 minutes aways. So we rented a motorbike again. The morning we went out to go to
My Son, was one of the only day it rained during our trip. So we bought two lovely
poncho and jumped on the bike anyway cause it’s not a bit of rain that gonna stop
us. And bonus points it gave me an incredible collection of photo of alexis with a
pocho on and me to be fair.
Then, we started our trip to My Son, one of the last bike ride of our trip.
