Culture, food and a broken toe
First the culture, I left you on a moto to go to My son, we will eventually arrive
at My son temple with a sore butt and a bit wet (I gotta admit the pocho helped, but
with the wind it was a little bit hopeless) My Son itself was incredible! It’s a bit
lost in the middle of nowhere, and the ruins are dispersed in a forest.
Warning,
it’s not because it in a forest that it’s warm. Humidity is a bitch and proved it at
My son. The main thing I remember of Vietnam was the heat. But even with the heat
that felt like 12 burning sun on our shoulder, My Son was worth it.
And bonus point I got to show digitals to alexis. They are plant that close themself
when you touch them. Pretty cool.
The next day we went on to visit the marble mountain which is pretty close to our
apartment but we still had our rented a bike. Before starting to described the
marble mountain, here’s a little side story. In the philippine there was a lot of
sidewalk being construct. Of course, with my legendary clumsiness I tripped on one
of the construction site and hurted one of my toe pretty bad. (down side of flip
flops again….) Anyway at that point the pain was ok, I was able to walk with no
problem, but don’t touch it. The problem here is, again I am clumsy, when we came
back from My Son, I judged necessary to bang my toe on the sidewalk while walking.
To the point of where my toe was now broken… But it wasn’t going to stop me from
visiting the marble mountain. My stubbornness and my obsession with walking often
lead me to painful experience. I still climbed the million stairs of the marble
mountain just with a slight limp.
Yeah stairs…. You have the option to take an elevator for a fee but what's the fun
in that!
Seriously the climb was fun it gives you an amazing view of the city. the mountain
doesn’t only consist of an endless amount of stairs. In side the mountain, there’s
cavernes that you can visit.
Some of them had been transform in place of worship. You can still see where they
use to make a fire to eluminate de cave. It’s really interesting.
You also have the opportunity of taking panoramic picture once you get to the top
(the complete path to get on the top is a bit hard to find and you have to work for
it... it’s not an easy ride. But I did it with a broken toe, you are going to be
fine.
In the following days we also visited the town of Da nang, there was nothing
particular about the town but it was nice to walk around and discover a little more.
(and also withdraw more money while we were in downtown). We noticed that there was
a lot of korean barbecue pretty much everywhere. So of course we tried on… I know so
far I talked to you about korean and indian food in vietnam. But the barbecue was
delicious and i discovered that I really like weird looking sake beer… we walk back
home.
We did try a few vietnamese restaurant that were incredible. On of them had great
review and was especially praised for there deep fried shrimp. So of course we went
there and tried them. But vietnamese eat whole shrimps...and it was a pretty rough
awakening for my bear. Shrimp heads were too much for him. I can’t complain.. more
shrimp for me! After a few, I hit a pretty crunchy spot and gave up.
On our last day we proceed to go to the giant lady just before the sunset. The
process of getting there was a tiny tipsy bit more complicated than plan… Since the
motorbike didn’t had a working gas gauge, we went by eye and judged when it was time
to pick up some gas. Unfortunately that day we were one corner street too
optimistic. We ran out of gas on a main street on the other side of the gas station…
So we had to cross a major artery on foot while dragging a motorbike. With our luck,
a nice man stopped and ask us if everything was ok. We manage to explain to him that
we ran out of gas and we were heading to the station. The guy help us to get to the
gas station safely. Well kind of safely, he pushed our motorbike with one of his
feet while he was on his motorbike. It was a pretty fun scene to be honest, but it
worked like a charm. (and we didn’t had to push the motor mike slowly across the a
10-way road so I will be eternally grateful to that stranger, who by the way didn’t
want any money and left smiling at us). We did made it to the giant lady in time for
the sunset.
The view was incredible and the lady pretty impressive. We even got to see wild
monkey everywhere….
That sunset concluded our stay in Da Nang and the next day we were on our way to our
last stop of our trip Ho chi Minh.
