Safety Tips

Safety tips There’s a lot we can say about safety and what you should avoid while traveling. It true the world is a dangerous place and not all town/country are safe.

Of course to stay safe you can avoid everything, stay inside after dark, don’t drink etc. I did that the first time when I backpacked. I was safe but I also miss a lot of experience by doing that.

First, don’t go alone the best way to stay safe is to travel in group. (before traveling with someone make sure your on the same page regarding safety and the procedure to adopt when someone don’t feel safe. For us, if one of us didn’t felt safe we agreed to leave. )

Second when accepting help from stranger always have a backup plan/ or just an easy way out.

Third in taxi, grab, tuk-tuk and strangers cars, always use a map application on your phone (even without a SIM card, you phone has a GPS chip that will allow you to have your actual position) to follow where you are going. That way if the driver is not going in the right direction (and driving you somewhere else) you will know. If he is no going in the right direction don't let him get to his destination. It’s more likely there will be reinforcement at the arrival. (so well, fight/argue in the car)

Fourth, trust yourself and listen to yourself. You know when a situation isn’t right. If you start walking in a street and feel like you don’t belong there leave. Our instincts are often true.

Fifth, If you travel in a country that has a lot of arm robbery, always have a buch of 1$ bill strapped together with a $20 on top… If you get robbed through that on the floor. It may help you escape. (That one is only in emergency and to take with a caution)
