Ferry’s in Bangkok/Crossing the river

You can of course take one of the bridges, but there’s only a few of them around the main touristic area and they are quite far apart. Even though you can cross them by foot, you also have the fun and efficient option of taking the ferry! There’s a lot of different point where you can take the ferry. Here are some example of different type of ferry.

The tourist ferry
It’s a ferry that goes around the main tourist attractions. You have different option, we took the one off option where you pay 60 baht for a one way ticket. You have round trip option, all day option and night option but the all day option are only valid until 17h or 18h.

The weird penich
They are shady looking boat with maddly skilled drivers. They are not really stable and don’t really have a schedule. (normally it leave every 15 minutes…. More or less) it costs 5 bath to cross the river it’s a 2 minute ride. We took it a few times and for some reason sometime it drops us in one spot and other times on a another without warning but the drop off point were 3-4 minutes apart, so not really an issue. Remember that they are closed and sunday (we learned the hard way)…. You can go on it with a bicycle but not a motorbike. They are really safe so no worries, you just need a bit of skill to hop on.

The official ferry
We never took it ,but it a big ferry that allows motorbike on it (more like the north american ferries) it costs 3,5 bath. It leaves and arrives at specific time and it's very crowded. Locals use it to go to work. They also use the shady one but it seem to be more for occasional crossing and used has a short cut since the official ferries are quite far from one another.

The 2-4 people boat
That’s the one that we have only seen from afar but you can rent a driver and a boat for a day and wonder around the Bangkok river on their boat. Seem like a nice gondol experience.
